The report on results of the election of the Luhansk city council`s deputy (constituency # 19)
687 voters of 2392 having taken part in the voting supported the winner. In general, the election`s results comply with outcomes of the last by-election of the Alchevsk city councils` deputy: the main rivals were heads of state agencies rendering services to the population and employers residing in the electoral district. The main competitors to the winner were the following: Svitlana Tarchuck (507 votes in favor), private entrepreneur; Mykola Streltsov (363 votes in favor), Deputy Director of the CJSC Agroindustrial Firm Edelveys; and Anait Kocharyan (supported by 314 voters), private entrepreneur. All three entrepreneurs reside in Oleksandrivsk town, where the election was conducted (Oleksandrivsk is a part of Luhansk city).
Talking about the candidates supported by political parties, Kostyantyn Oliphirenko, a member of Regions of Ukraine Party, has got the fifth place with 276 votes in favor. He carried on the active campaign resorting to wide range of political technologies, including the so-called "straw election" conducted by representatives of the Region of Ukraine and the Ukrainian Social Democrat Parties in Luhansk on May 9.
Oliphirenko`s results may be regarded as successful as his next-going rival, Serhiy Sapho (Social Democratic Party (united)), has obtained 23 votes in favor only. However, the general tendency of Luhansk elections has clarified itself: voters prefer managers of different service institution or entrepreneurs residing in the given electoral district and who are able to pay back the voters` kindness. The constituency actively participated in the process – the turnout was 55 %.
The election was conducted because Karen Andreasyan, the deputy of constituency #19 and leader of the Armenian community in Luhansk, died lately last year.
