Draft law “On local elections” developed with CVU participation, registered in parliament

The draft law provides for reform of local authorities in Ukraine. Besides open lists, foreseen by the Coalition agreement, the draft includes a number of propositions from public. Among the draft law provisions – ban on election advertising on radio, TV and also outdoor advertising (city lights, billboards).

The draft law imposes serious limitations on finances of political parties’ candidates. In particular, the document prescribes that candidates receive equal amounts from the party election fund. Such a provision evens financial resources of the candidates and limits expenses on campaigning.

The draft law also introduces gender quota. Both gender groups should be represented in each group of three candidates from the party list.
